S3 E12: The End of Male Supremacy?

December 12, 2018

In our Season Three finale, co-hosts Celeste Headlee and John Biewen talk about where American culture goes from here, sexism-wise. And we hear from scholar Melvin Konner, who argues that we are in fact witnessing—and bringing about—“the end of male supremacy.”

Music by Alex Weston, and by Evgueni and Sacha Galperine. Music and production help from Joe Augustine of Narrative Music.

Another great season! Thank you for these podcasts. I’m now caught up in 2020 to go to season 4!

I enjoyed Seeing White, and so I decided to listen to MEN as well. It too was educational and worthwhile. I doubt you will be focusing your lens on the subject again any time soon. Nevertheless, I felt something was lacking from the series, and that was the complicity of many women (particularly mothers, girlfriends, and wives) in promoting, expecting, sustaining, and rewarding any number of attitudinal attributes of our construct of masculinity that you present negatively (and usually without any compensating virtues).

To be more precise about my prior comment, there were elements of the podcast that touched indirectly upon that subject, but I felt the topic deserved much greater emphasis.
